New Owner Help Needed

Post by b19rak »

Hi, i've just bought a Helious Blue Mk1b F'reg for £850. Good price but 2 arches are in serious need of replacement.
The car drives fantastically well and is suprising how modern it feels.

Can anybody recommend any bodyshops in the Nuneaton/Coventry or Hinckley areas please?

Hi, Welcome to the Fun Car!

Fantastic arent they!? As far as repair shops are concerned, I'm not sure, however there are replacement rear arch panel sections available for sale from JDG Panels, very good fitment, you can click on my car on the right hand side ("1989 MR2 Mk1b" bit) to see pictures of some of the panels and them welded in place.

You can get contact details and prices from http://www.mr2mk1club.com/panels.html

Hi, thanks for the info. I need to start getting some quotes to get the work done. Failing that there is a company on that site that will do the arches but i will have to take the car to them.

Great to hear you are having fun with your mk1!!
Only thing i can add to this is,if you want to keep the car for a few years or so,please don't have the arches bodged up.
Make sure you have new arches fitted.

I bought my first na about 4 years ago and although it looked really good on the arches ,other than one tiny spot of rust, within a year it started rusting badly.
I sold it early this year as an mot failiure, the arches where so bad you could see the road through them.BIG holes!!

Please don't let this put you off the joys of a mk1 but the money does need to be spent on those dreaded arches.
The full arches aren't cheap but certainly worth while having done!
As i said if you want to keep the car,go for replacement arches, otherwise every year or 2 you will have to have them bodged again!
We all know the mk1 is worth it :D

You can buy complete front wings from MrT and I believe they are about £120 a side, steep but not as bad if you think they are genuine MrT parts! As for the rear, I think MrT are really expensive for them, so you either go for sections, or I have seen a company in the US (think its was wolf something) that do complete rear quarter panels for about $300 and they seem quite good quality, but still a bit steep I feel.

Just found the link for the other panels: http://www.alfaparts.net/mr2.html

Finally you can go fibre glass, but personally I dont do F.G, I like the feel of cold metal

Is there anyone in the UK that manufactures these parts. I imagine the postage would be quite expensive.

Is there a website or any contact details for MrT?
