FRONT ANTI ROLL BAR LINK CHEAP SOLUTION

Post by gordy.r »

I recently put my 'two' in for it's MOT and guess what was wrong - the front anti roll bar drop links (mind you that was all that was duff!).
I was quoted £70 each side at first but then my mechanic managed to get £16 a side anti roll drop links (from a ford i believe, but i will find out and post later) which fitted near perfect with the exception of a little drilling of the hole!
So in the end saved myself £108 which will go towards other little bits and bobs on the car!
So look around, don't just settle for the easy option!
(i also have had no problems from my drop links since, and NO RATTLE!).

Pattern parts Vauxhall Carlton ones are what I use, AR bar and damper fixing holes need to be drilled out from 10mm to 12mm.

If its the one off a 87 - 94 Carlton ( aka Opel Omega-A ), part no. 90334075 ( Vauxhall EPC  ) its listed as being 10mm at one end and 12mm at the other so you may only need to drill out one end.

Definitely 12mm both ends. I used Pearl Products AR drop links either part number PB53 or PLB06 (cannot remember which!).

I always thought the carlton drop links needed to be shortened for the Mk1? Still sounds like a cheap repair, I do have some rattles (more of a knocking) from the front, could be a goer :thumleft:

The Carlton ones I used were virtually the same length as OE, the only thing I found was that I had to match a pair to get equal lengths, for some reason out of the 3 the motor factor had in stock one was 5mm different!
