Transmission Fluid Change Mk1B

Post by ldavies83 »

Ok me being a cheapskate here!

I have a bottle of transmission fluid that I bought for my Vaux "Astra G" 5 speed Manual for a Job I never got round to doing, anyway any ideas if it usable in the MR2 for a fluid change? I dont know the viscocity of it as I peeled the labels of it one evening in boredom ](*,)

Anyone have a Astra Users handbook around to crosscheck? Anyone just "know"?

It's original Vaux/Opel Fluid BTW

If no-one gets back to you earlier, I'll check the manual for Liz's car tonight. Can't see it being anything other than 75W90 though - I use Mobil1 SHC in the F28 6 speed box in my Calibra ( seems to suit it better than MT90 for some reson )

Thanks for that, Seems a waste to just throw it away!

Unless if its not compatible, somebody wants it for their car at postage cost??

Checked the owners manual - and it doesn't specify the grade for the gearbox oil, it just says 'consult a Vauxhall dealer'

I've checked the Haynes manuals for the previous generation, and that just specifies 80EP gear oil

Thanks for that, I dont think its worth risking for the sakes of a couple more weeks until I get some more cash to buy some decent stuff. Would you be interested in it at all, as per above reason??

Sorry - already got a couple of litres of Mobil SHC for when I reassemble the Calibra ( hopefully by the end of the month, so I can put the '2 in the garage when I SORN it when the tax runs out )
