stupid little springs on brake pads....argghh!!

Post by misterT »

Can anybody give me a clue how those horrible, little, fiddly, annoying springs go back into the front brake pads??? Either i'm missing something, thick as something smelly n brown or my fingers are an abnormal shape that prevents me from ever doing such a 'simple' pad change on my 2 ever again! Help.... please!

The little bent legs of the springs fit into small holes drilled in the curved metal outer edge of each pad. There are two springs for each set of pads. You put the top spring in with the tip of the 'v' shape pointing down and the bottom spring with the tip of the 'v' pointing up. So they oppose each other like this.... > <

edit:Sorry Peter..was putting together this post while you were submitting yours lol.

Does you mean the Y shaped anti-squeal spring?

If so, have a butchers here, there's a small hole in the pad for it to fit...

Edit: Hope the pic works, imageshack seems to be running on a 56K modem again!!! Hence my delayed post too, hadn't realised others had posted.

try this trick out
put together the pads and the springs outside of the calliper and bind the bundle together with some insulation tape, drop it into the calliper and when in position, cut the tape and the springs will spread out and push the pads into position without too much fuss, saves having to grow another hand. :D

Only time those springs annoyed me was when I looked at my shiney new brakes and saw them laying on the floor. #-o
