[Mk2] [Turbo] Clutch problem.

If I am driving along the motorway for instance and haven't had to slow down and change gear for say 30-45 mins the clutch pedal falls flat to the floor.

If I hook my toe under it and pump the pedal 6-12 times I get a fully working pedal again. I never lose the clutch pedal round town when it's being used regularly.

Is this just simply a matter of bleeeding the clutch through with fresh fluid?

The clutch fluid is absolutely filthy atm.

sounds like a leak. there are really only 3 places it can leak. the master cylinder, the slave (most common) and the flex hose if it's really old.

New slave cylinders are cheap, goodridge hose is about the same price, not sure on master prices.

Agreed with above, there is a leak somewhere most likely with one of the cylinders.

You may be able to get a rebuild kit for the master cylinder.

I've been keeping an eye on the reservoir and it isn't going down at all?

Have a look around the slave cylinder and the Flexi line to it. You don't need to leak much to cause this problem.
If there are no leaks try a 2 man bleed.
With the back end up on axle stands you can get to the bleed nipple from underneath. After bleeding a couple of squirts try pushing the rod into the slave whilst opening the nipple to back bleed. Then carry on the the 2 man bleed as normal.

If doing that doesn't sort it and no leaks are present then it is likely the master cylinder seals are knackered, letting fluid past the plunger rather than pushing it.

Seal are knackered. Happened to me years ago too! Always on the autobahn when in a jam or shortly afterwards when standing still...the pent up heat made the seal so soft, that it couldn't hold pressure.

btw: Slave seal....not master
