[Mk2] [Turbo] What is this bracket for and do i really need it?

Ok so the bracket is pictured here.


Ive forgotten to put this bracket back on and now the driveshaft is back in its going to be a pain to get it fitted.

I scanned through as many pics as i can find and gone through the epc and cant work out what this bracket does and if i really need it.

Ive seen a few pics that dont even have this bracket. Just seems to be a brace of some kind?
Its off a rev 2 turbo.

Any ideas?

Thanks to Paul Woods. He says its the original downpipe support which i no longer have so not needed.
