1991 rev 1 3sfe N/A
Car had been poor to start in the damp. ( poss coil tracking ) but wd40 on it and away it went.
However after every Frost it had taken longer to fire up.
It misfires ( damp ) under load when driving but usually clears as it "dries "?
So something must be soaking in the damp and drying out ?
However now it refuses to fire up. Dizzy cap removed and centre lead holder was full of battery style corrosion crusty..blocking centre hole ! so how it ever ran in the first place is a mystery as lead was just pushed against the crusty stuff ( no hole) .
So upshot is new coil , leads, dizzy, rotor, plugs on order.
Is there anything else anyone can suggest to clear this problem. ( Ignitor ? )
what is the spare open pipe on the Dizzy ?
Grey plug next to coil pack ?
Many Thanks for any advice.
P.S. once again the Toyota design of massive water inlet holes in the engine cover curses the car.

Re: Car wont start
mine had identical symptoms to yours. it was the ignitor, it had burst open....
Re: Car wont start
Thank you for replies.
Car has burst into life first turn after a dry day !
but doesnt mean its fixed. Obvious its a damp electrics prob.
When you say Ignitor do you mean the aluminium casting with a rectangular plug ?
or
the Coil which is the black / grey potted resin thing with HT lead socket ?
If its the Aluminium casting one ...where do I get a new one and for not the price of a OEM Dealer mortgage.
Will a new Bracket make a big difference ?
Appreciate the replies and guidance.

Re: Car wont start
Coil pack has ht king lead coming out of it and on mine screws had rusted to the bracket its black case had cracked and let water in and rotted insides
(I smashed old one open to have a look) the bracket was bit rusty and
Screws where rusted in fast, the bracket is the earth so it helps being
New and really isn't expensive also comes with new screws.
As for other parts got mine from mr2 Ben.
Worse thing is I'm on waiting list for v6 @ Woodsport and I'll be selling
All these bits when it's done as there only 6 months old lol

Re: Car wont start
What leads to you buy?
Aftermarket leads are poorer quality than OEM. I had some generic blueprint ones from a local motor factor that were garbage, wire insulation was too thin.
I then bought Bosch which were good, but going forward would only buy OEM, they'll last another 20 years which no aftermarket items will!

I would 100% go with Toyota leads.. they are expensive but will last 20 years.
