Hi,
I recently had my alternator pack up .
Garage Replaced it with brand new one.
It now charges fine, however when left for a couple of days Battery is dead.
Had battery checked at Halfords to see if it had blown and it came back in perfect health including cranking amps etc
When i put ammeter from negative to to negative on disconnected battery I get a reading beyond 250 mA
However when i pull the "ALT Senc " fuse, it drops to almost zero.
Therefore , what could be causing the drain and is it linked to this Alt Senc fuse ?
Any help explaining why it should suddenly have a parasitic drain after new alternator is welcome

Re: Parasitic Battery Drain ( Alt Sencing ? )
as i said on mr2oc, id bet on the new alternators diode pack.
Re: Parasitic Battery Drain ( Alt Sencing ? )
Unplug the alternator wiring plug and see if the drain goes, if it does then it's the alternator
Re: Parasitic Battery Drain ( Alt Sencing ? )
Unplugged the round plug and amp leakage dropped to almost zero.
The same applies to on plugging Alt Sencing Fuse.
Does this mean the Diodes are shot ?
Its a brand new Alternator and battery drained 2 days after it came back from garage ?
Is there a way of confirming this ?
Can new diodes be fitted ?
what is an acceptable Amperage across the neg terminal when car at rest all things switched off.?
To think I turned down a used alternator for a new one.

^^ this you need to return for a new one
Re: Parasitic Battery Drain ( Alt Sencing ? )
Thanks for help everyone.
Garage only fitted the brand new Alterntor which I purchased elsewhere.
But contacted supplier and if they find a "genuine " fault they will replace.
Will this diagnosis
( unplug alternator and parasitic drain of 226 mAmps goes away )
be deemed as a genuine diode fail fault ?
Many Thanks again

Re: Parasitic Battery Drain ( Alt Sencing ? )
How much was the alternator? What make is it?
I've had issues with customers supplying their own parts bought from ebay cheaper than I can supply... Thing is I don't buy cheap crap parts as if they fail I've gotta replace at my own cost.
Usual story you get what you pay for.
I'll happily fit customers supplied parts but as I will inform them at the time, If it is faulty and needs replacing they will have to pay the labour again.
Hope you get it sorted.
