[Mk2] [Turbo] Diy ic spray

Post by paulharry »

I'm thinking of making a ic spray for the 2
Has anyone made one for there car?
I'm thinking about getting a washer tank and pump from scrap yard and having a mess around
I might try disconnecting the wiper washer on mine first and tapping into the line and block the pipe to the bonnet sprayers to see what it works like
I think the one from the scrap car should be on a switch so it can run for as long as you like
Has anyone tried it or am I wasting my time

For all that effort ,, just buy a single stage sub £100 water/meth kit and experience some real results ... just my 2p ... on your question ... why not , buy a 1.0mm water meth jet attach it to a pump , point it at the intercooler and see if it helps ... keep us up to date ... do you have a air charge intake temp gauge ? to see if theres any cooling .. as martin says , probably not :(

Best of luck buddy :thumleft:

It worked for WRC cars...and seems to make a big difference- definitely worth a go :thumleft:

In all fairness that is very different to a road going mr2 with a side mount intercooler, if it made any difference in the slightest I would be amazed, by all means throw something together and give it a go, I for one waste money on a daily basis #-o :-$

i considered doing it, i dont see any reason why it wouldnt be beneficial.

didnt the st205 wrc also have a spray bar, like the scooby?

Yes it did... and that was on the charge-cooler pre-rad rather than an air-to-air intercooler.

You would need a pump and nozzle capable of atomizing the water otherwise you will not get any cooling affect. I imagine only beneficial in real world if used after you have been on boost, ie heatsoaked the IC. So given the hardware required , water injection will be a better route Imo.

got me thinking.

wonder if i can rig something up to my water injection system.

so on cruise, spray a little AT the ic, and when on boost, inject AND spray.

some sort of diverter valve, so hold down of a button which will spray core.
and when switch is off WI system does its thing.

Yeah I was thinking it might work for the heat soak when on boost for a while
I havnt got s temp gauge to check the results but it's on my list
The only comparison I can think of is
If you got naked in the Arctic you would freeze to death quite quick but if you covered yourself in water you would freeze to death faster so I reckon there would be some cooling affect with a spray
It might help after a hard run to cool it down faster
