[Mk2] [Generic] BC COLLOVERS

Post by Mike N »

Is it possible to fit the std type of top mount on the RA coilovers from BC?

For various reasons I dont want the rose jointed type they come with.

Thanks

If the pillowball top mounts are a problem for you then why not look at a strut and spring setup?

As for using OE style top mounts, would it not simply be a matter of measuring the diameter / length of the thread at the top, if it's the same, then an OE style one will fit? YOu can see how one is assembled here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HlqOA35NmAw

I dont have the BC struts, but I am looking into buying them to replace my Teins.

OE type struts and springs wont work on my car.

Could you not ask BC for that information if you've already been in contact with them?

why not just buy a used/knackered top mount and test fit?

You asked them what the thread size was, and they didn't know? That seems unlikely.

Gazza,

You said length of thread, which I also asked about and they didnt know, neither did they know what type of thread or its diameter. I also asked for other information. The person I spoke to didnt know much at all, just there to take orders I guess.

Alan,

As stated above I dont have a set of BC units but I am looking into buying a set and need to know if std pattern top mounts will fit.

If I had a set infront of me I would be able to test fit like you said, no probs, but unfortunately I dont.

OK - it wasn't clear what you actually asked them. If you had just asked them if OE top mounts would fit, it was no surprise they couldn't help you as they wouldn't know the spec of an OE top mount.

You'd probably be better off emailing them anyway, more chance of it getting forwarded to the right person.

Also try Driftworks - they sell BC coilovers. While they are unlikely to have a set in their warehouse, they may know the answer or have a direct line to someone who does know the answer.
