Rear arches being rolled and......

Post by BALDYMONSTER »

So the rear arches are getting rolled and hubcentric spacers fitted.

7.5/17 5gr hyper zigen rims with 235/40/17 tures.

Not sure what the offset is.

What size of hubcentric spacer should I fit and has anyone got a link to where to buy them?

it's a MK2, whats the offset of the wheels as that'll make a difference to the size of spacer needed

Yeah depending on the offset you may not need spacers. If the offset was around +20-25 you wouldn't. If it was 40 or so you would .

Plenty of people have run wider tyres and rims without the need for rolled arches. Need more info...

Ok, had the front wheels off today for a balance.

ET is 43, see pic.

So what width of spacer can I run with rolled rear arches to properly fill out the back?

Can you not just fit them and use a tape measure?

With the arches rolled but not "pulled" I reckon I have about 15 mm.

Eventually I want 17 by 9's with 255/40/17's so I may get them "pulled just to be on the safe side.

The other option is to get longer wheel studs as opposed to hubcentric spacers, but I'm not convinced it's not a PITA to remove the original studs and fit longer ones.

My tubby had 255/40/17's on the back and it really made the car, although I cant remember what offset the rims were. :(

17x9 with 255s would only need the lip folded up with an offset of +35.

For your 235/40R17 on a 7.5" rim with a +43 offset a 25mm spacer will have you about 2mm from flush. You may get away with no guard rolling.

I've done the calculations on the info you have provided. Remember when the wheel goes up into the arch it moves slightly inwards.

If you are really worried, then get a 20mm spacer and then you definitely won't need to roll at all. It won't be flush though.

If you wanted to go the other way and make sure it's really flush, then yes a guard roll will do it with a 30mm spacer. However IMO that is getting silly having a spacer that large, when you should have just bought wider wheels with the correct offset to begin with.

Doubt it.

Mine was cutting the tyre - 235/40R17 8J ET31.

How low were you? That is over 8mm in from flush. Hardly setting the world on fire with those sizes.

I had 245/40R17s on a +30 17x8.5 which was bang on flush. Lowered on Bilsteins and TRD springs. Only scraped on big bumps, so I just flattened the lip inside the rear guard and got zero scraping.

I'm not entirely convinced by the accuracy of the rear calculation to be honest.

This is with 2.5 degrees of camber at the rear as well, so that's pulling the top in:

You can see where it used to cut the tyre.

I can see why yours was cutting. Your tyre is basically up in the guard  :thumleft:

Just by judging and guesstimating it looks to me like a 20mm spacer would be the max with the arches rolled on these alloys.
