MK1a Bhp= 121 IIRC..being pedantic...

RWHP is irrelevant and meaningless tbh.

top speed 124mph max... think stats were around 121mph for the most part. Your speedo will read 130mph or so.

0-60 is about right.

Thanks Lauren......but isn't RWBHP a more realistic number for the power of a car since it takes into account the power loss thru' the tranny?

No because you could pump your tyres up and gain another 10bhp @ the wheels for example. Transmission losses vary. So RWHP measurements have a lot of extraneous variables and no Kev i don't do debates on this subject! ;)

but rollers do not reflect road conditions. How come then that there is a 55bhp loss when you put an SC on the rollers? Ie 126bhp@wheels and 182bhp @ flywheel?

that would mean a flywheel figure of 151bhp for my old SC.. a bit unlikely and no better than guesswork in all honesty.

i'm not going to have a debate btw. ;)

Hmm i thought the flywheel figure was based on a calculation involving a power up and power down figure and lots of extrapolation in between.or in my terms a guess !

The flywheel figure quoted by the manufacturer is from testing on an engine dynamometer under specified conditions - the only way to get a true power figure.

Every cars engine is different within a few BHP.
And your 0-60 time depends on your driving skill.....Lauren and others who race/trackdays etc etc will tell you.

The mk1's are not all about their speed....more the fun factor, handling solid reliability. they are nippy and will see off most rep cars etc.
Lets face it....I can't think of any 1.6 cars that are faster and as practical... :-k and that don't use a turbo....
