Anyone plagued with blowing mani gasket

Post by daviefoster9773 »

Well my mechanic is a useless sack of ah*t.

After ballsing up the engine swap in more ways than one (all fixed now) he took the car back in to fix the blowing exhaust. Got it back, after a further 7weeks in garage and it's started blowing again. It's where the manifold joins the head. I don't knowing if its a stripped stud hole or what but it's getting really annoying as this will be the third attempt to fix it.

Anyone else have this?

was the gasket replaced with a genuine toyota one??

torqued correctly?

easy way to see if a stud is stripped,, count the stud holes and amount of studs holding it on. maybe even take a 14mm socket to each of them, see if any are loose or missing.
believe theres 8 on a rev3 mani.
(just remove ic pipe and heatshield to get enough the room).

They seemed tight. Checked them the other night. Gasket, I'm not sure. My mechanic got it. Take it it will need replaced now its blowing? Best place to get a Toyota one?

Thanks.

From Toyota :) it will need replacing. Ironically the one that was on there when you got the engine was a brand new Toyota one if I remember correctly.

I read your post and I thought I could have written that. ive had a few tubular manifolds and they were rubbish so ive gone back to stock. yo u need to make sure your manifold is flat cause they can warp , you have to buy a genuine gasket and new egg shaped nuts and make sure the turbos bolted on and the supporting bracket. if I knew where demon motorsports were id throw a brick through their window.

I had exactly this - also, 3 snapped studs!

Took it to Rogue and they did a fantastic job replacing all of the studs, removing the snapped ones and a new toyota gasket. This was about 5 years ago and all is still well.

Can't recommend them enough...
