Booooooost

Post by mr299ron »

Intercooler, full turbo back exhaust and an MBC, what sort of boost should I run and what kind of power can/should I make with that?

Anyone running this on a rev 2? Maybe 250 at the fly with this setup?

Cheers

No more than 15 psi on a rev2 turbo. Fuel cut is around 10/11 psi on stock ecu, so you'll need a fuel cut defender. (FCD)

250/260bhp is about right for those mods and 15 psi.

Thought 15 psi would be the max. Why is this? Does the turbo run out of puff at this point?

I think fuel cut is 12 psi as the stock psi is 10. Surely I'm not running less than 10 psi!

Well, am fitting a boost gauge today so we'll see.

So I could upgrade the injectors and fuel pump and be fine?

Stock is about 0.7 bar a rounds 10psi on a rev1/2, not 100% if that goes for Rev 3 too.

I have Rev 1 with Rev 3 upgrades plus berk intercooler and I run 1bar so about 15 psi.

I have had it turned up to around 17psi though and it was fine,

No, you will need an ECU to control them and you still have 8.8 to 1 compression pistons in a Rev 1&2

The stock engines run under the control of the knock sensor most of the time so turning up the boost makes that worse. Head gasket will blow first, once that if fixed the piston will be the next to go.

If you want more power the correct way is to fit lower compression pistons then you can do what you want with boost pressure

You must get tired of teaching this to the us uneducated

You must have lost count of how many times you've said this.
For me i always wonder if you want to turn up the boost as they say or disappointed in how limited the boost pressure you can turn up a rev 1/2, why not get a rev 3+ in the first place.

I believe literally because Rev1/2's are cheap and a lot of owners didn't do their research before buying

I'll research the basics before buying, as that is what is most important.

The research is done whilst owning the car as you come across different sections of the car at different times. You couldn't possibly learn everything before buying the car, just go out and buy it and learn on the way!

And yeah the rev1 and 2s are cheaper than the rest, but we can make just as much BHP, albeit to a certain point, as you guys and would have paid less.

I'm quite happy with what I'm running at the moment, I just want to learn about boosting the car etc.

So get off your high horse and stop being a mug :)

Was a bit harsh though parker i can see why he was angry .. if i read the posts right 8-[ we cant all by £3k rev3 .. end of the day rev1/2 are 1.3 to £1.5k :thumleft: great starter kit :thumleft: .. being told you should have bought a rev3 is pretty dark and not helpful

I bought a rev2 to start with, moving onto a rev3. Learnt everything with it and it never let me down.

I've nothing against them as that's exactly what I did with my first mk2 turbo! :)

Wasn't intended as a dig, just that it's general consensus Rev 1/2 isn't the best starting block if you're going to be wanting more than 250/60bhp without spending more. In addition to suspension and geometry amongst a few other things
