engine bay temp sensor

Hi All

Does anybody have any information on how this works to control the fans?

I am guessing it earth's out when reaching a certain temperature?

Given that if you remove the plug from the sensor the fan runs continuously, I would have thought that suggests it's the other way around. ie it holds the fan control circuit in the ecu at earth potential until the engine bay reaches a preset temperature. But that's just an educated guess.
