Rev3 Turbo - low on power

Post by jcurtis6183 »

Hi Guys,

The tubby has suddenly developed an issue where the power isn't locking in until higher revs than normal.

When the power comes in its strong as normal but there is definitely a delay, almost like lag.....any ideas on what could cause it?

Knock sensor chiming in ... have you done ecu codes :?:

As a ps. knock sensor is the gate keeper for power :thumleft:

if the knock sensor is gone then there is no power no matter what the revs ? all sound no go

that whats happened to me, check for codes onthe ecu
If you see an MR2 with a raised engine cover, the bottom line is it's probably faster than your car.

Thanks guys. It feels like it's holding back basically around 2.5 - 3k revs then kicks on.
The power is all there beyond that point.

I was thinking maybe an air leak? It's not consistent, sometimes worse than others.

Check all ignition components, plugs, dizzy cap, rotor arm, leads, coil, igniter etc...

Arr gotcha .. tbo in my car not much happens before 3.5k but im sure you know your car better than me .. test you bov thats a good place to start , remove the valve a blow into it if it cant handle lung pressure its goosed .. and look for boost leaks too .. but to me no power under 3k sound right 8-[ .. its sometime hard to diagnose over the internet with out seeing the car ... best of luck mate .

And ps. checking your ignition systems up to pars a great idea :thumleft:

Yes .. wastegate open stops the turbo from spooling properly and you really feal it at higher rpms.

Its well worth checking if you have a footpump and some vac line you can attach to it :thumleft:
