Cambelt Tensioner

Post by SuperRedMR2 »

Hi,

I am having issues getting the cambelt around the tensioner.

Where is the best place to lever the tensioner to enable me to get the belt around it?

Every time I attempt to move it, it either comes off the little dowel on the block or the spring loses tension and comes off. Both very infuriating.

Please help

Leave the locking bolt/pointer just slack, use a pry bar and lever the pulley back to full extension, lock the bolt.

Fit the belt and unlock the bolt, then bounce the tensioner a few times from behind to take out any slack between the pulleys, lock the bolt and rotate the engine a few times, check alignment and unlock/lock the tensioner one more time.

That is my method and i've done more Mk1 belts than Toyota i bet!

Oh yeah thanks Paul.

That would have been a much simpler idea!

Cheers
