not checked religously but mainly short trips (6 miles per day) on Smallish A road I generally get about 100-120 miles with a tenner, and thats including 1 oportunity to be "enthusiastic" on the right foot!
Cheers,
L.
fuel gauges are not accurate, so unless you fill it right up, then drive X amount of miles and only manage to squeeze a tenner in exactly, then you cannot accurately work it out. Obviously price is a factor, whereas if you were just working out MPG then price is irrelevant.
MPG is from 10-43 depending on what you are doing.

I agree with Lauren.
With my mk1b I can display MPG in real time on a laptop by extracting data from the ECU.
It is amazing to see how much the MPG is affected by driving style. Smooth urban driving with just a sniff of throttle (i.e. dull and boring) can make a huge difference!
NB
I keep meaning to find a long flat piece of road to see what effect having the headlights up/on and the sunroof/windows open has on the MPG figure for the mk1. To get an accurate measurement I would have to drive over the same stretch of road at the same speed. I need to add some smoothing/averaging to the MPG display too. I would guess taking the average over a 1 mile stretch would give a fair indication.
Once I do this I will write a mk1b 'fuel economy' article for the mk1 club magazine with mpg readouts for steady speeds for 30mph up to 80mph in 10mph steps.
I'll also try and find the most economic speed/gear to drive the mk1b at on a flat road.

I got to drive a new Avensis diesel at work a few weeks ago these have a fuel economy display and the varience is amazing steady driving was showing 78MPG when I booted it it whent down to 7MPG
