Polybushing a mk1b- different to mk1b??

Post by Hennus »

New member here.

Can someone please clarify whether full bush kits are universal.

I.e. can I buy a polybush kit (eg superpro) that says its for 87-89 cars and it'll fit my mk1a? I can't seem to find a full kit for an early car.

Thanks!

All of the main bushes are the same. If the kit includes anti-roll bar bushes then these won't fit.

my rear ARB is rather rusty and very thin anyway- is it possible to replace with a m1b bar?

You can fit a mk1b rear bar however it's mounted slightly further back so there's a little bit of modding required where the mounting brackets bolt to the chassis. The rear mounting hole on the mk1a becomes the front hole with the mk1b bar fitted then you have to drill additional mounting points for the rear of the bracket.

If you're going to that much trouble then you may as well uprate at the same time as the standard mk1b rear bar isn't up to much either. You can either buy a mk1b White Line bar or for much the same effect at a lower price you can fit a mk2 bar.
