Mk1 - dash lights on when reving engine high...?

Post by sz00 »

Hi,

I noticed something on my new toy - when I rev the engine high (above 5-6k) the battery and the engine bay cooling fan dash lights flash for a split second.

Has anyone else had the same issue? Poor connection maybe?

Many Thanks,

Jay

Thanks for the reply :)

Why would the cooling fan warning light flash at the same time though?

Just to clarify (as it wasn't really clear from my first post) - these two lights seem to flash only at certain RPM (say 5800rpm) and if i continue going up the rev range the lights go off again... It's hard to say whether it does that at exactly the same RMP but it seems this way...

Thanks again,

Jay

Have a look at voltmeter if you can see if it goes high.(this is what my mk2 done when alternator died) or if it drops you could be losing voltage loose belt. Knackered battery bringing it down..

The battery light and cooling fan light are on the same circuit, so if either fails both lamps come on.

Ok, thanks guys!

I'll keep you posted should the alternator dies completely or I find a loose connection or something else...

When mine did this it was the IC regulator on top of the alternator at fault which needed replacing.

Would anyone have the alternator number for the MK1s?

I am planning to change the voltage regulator to see if this would cure the issue...

Thanks,

Jay
