[Mk2] [Turbo] Gen2 to Gen3 sensors & AFM delete.

Post by Grazzy »

Just a quick one, Just making sure I have everything I need.

Gen3 ECU
Gen3 Engine Loom
Gen3 Injectors
Map Sensor + MAF (other sensors included)
Coil, Ignitor

Do i need to add FPR to this list also?

Also i have a Gen3 throttle body with all sensors in my shed, Is this worth adding to the build (I don't think these are a direct swap internet bashing is coming back with mixed answers.) If this swapped will it require new throttle cable.

I'm not doing the work my self, Just trying to make sure I have everything i need before i take it the garage. next step after this is to get PFC added and mapped in :)

Also how long does it take to remove and reinstall an engine loom?

There used to be a pinout for a rev2 to rev3 loom not seen it in a while, Pete might still have it ... plan sounds about right , need a temp sentor (iat)

Yeah i think fpr is needed for the rev3+ 540cc injectors .

I have the sensor on route :)

Looks like its time to get a FPR ordered

do you know if there much work involved in getting a gen3 throttle body to fit a gen2 engine?

Not a 100% on the fpr .. i used to know the values for both fpr's years ago .. sorry my memory's xxxx , dont think there much differant 8-[ .. i set mine up on an after market valve .. dont know about the throttle body .. most stick to the rev1/2 body .

gen3 throttle body wont fit a gen2 mani
a gen3 fpr, afaik, is the same pressure, just has different location for the vacuum port. even if there was a psi or 2 difference, given the BGB specs, both have static pressures around the 33-38psi area in the manual, so that suggests they are ni on the same.

other bits not listed, intake temp sensor (replace the cold start injector)
o2 sensor is different, is it needed though, not sure especially if your going to a pfc.

ideally gen3 cams, though fair bit of effort that.

ideal world, a full gen3 head swap for the better mani's, cams, tb, well everything really.

Me included. Was one of the first to do it.

Note; I did say head, not engine. This is where the majority of the upgrades are aside from the ecu.

intake temp sensor got one of these
got 4 pin oxgen sensor

cold start injector do need one of them. (i think)

Ill have to think about the throttle body, head swap or head work, only had the head gasket replaced about 14 months ago. may just put that on hold for another time.

Many thanks for the input :)

Iirr the iat temp sensor replaces the cold start ... no need the replace the head mate .. sorry this has got convoluted :(

You need a temp sensor at the air filter and an iat sensor at the throttle body :thumleft:

I'm happy to help but i did this 4 years ago and my memorys xxxx

My only point was a few sensors don't turn a gen2 into a gen3. There's more to it than just the head also.

Sorry for confusing you. For an efi conversion, which is what your doing, as 2mad said, the ait replaces the cold start injector.

This sits in the manifold below the throttle body.

This should have been a sticky (rev1/2 to rev3) ... i cant remember everything needed but i'll have a go ... you need all the parts/sensors .... AND pinouts to do this .... weres Pete with the pinout when you need him .

I had them on my old computer .. but its toast now

I keep reading this hks vpc thingy. If I can get hold of one is it easy to fit and tune.

You will need to make a plate to fit the mat sensor if using original. I ordered one off gts chris but got refunded as he only sells complete kit now with a gm sensor and the original sensor as a different pitch so can not use it.

Don't think the specs for the gm are same as original but if you are going pfc would have thought can dial it in, sure i read you can somewhere.
