Sill repair - help!

Post by J-1 »

Does anyone know of any sill repair kits for the MK2 as I need to replace a sill for a car to get through MOT?

There are short repair sections available from MrT at an extortionate cost. The rear section that most commonly goes is part of the whole rear wing section only. There was a couple of short repair sections in the mk2 parts section but I think they sold.
Someone was looking to get some pattern sill made up but I don't think it has come off yet.
A guy called ollydent (IIRC) over on mr2oc had some made and offered them at a reasonable price for a full length sill.

If you have bubbling or rust near the rear end you will probably also have some rotten box section behind it.

These can be chopped out and rebuilt

you can then make your own sill by bending by hand over some pipe to get the correct profile then trim the shape at the end and weld on an end piece

Ok I made it sound simple but any coach builder type body shop should have no trouble with it as i'm a novice and managed.

Same issue with mine, been welded before, need full new section, just messaged the guy Olly, see what he comes back with.

Did you get yours sorted? I'm Glasgow area, looking for someone competent to carry out repair.

Cheers,

Mk2 Fiesta sills also work with a little bit of fettling.

Wow! excellent thread! Downloaded those templates, think I'll go with the astra sills now, cheapest I can get the escort 3/4 sills is £38 on ebay plus £12 postage, slightly dearer at the parts factors.

Cheers guys :)

Hi,

Struggling to find these as a pair on ebay, just one private seller at 20 quid each plus tener postage each too! I even searched under part no as well, no joy. Going to call my local motor factors or else just get them from Hadrians. Regarding the repair, got a man in a shed with a welder ha! quoted me £200 max to do the repair inc paint. He's been doing this kind of work for years (Heavy plant/cars) so should know his stuff! He had a look underneath and thinks the inners are solid, hopefully no surprises on closer inspection!

I'll keep you posted.

Do you have the ebay link?

Any reply from olly, I bought a mk2 and the father in law said he would do the work so I got the mk1 astra sill and he said it's not similar at all. The car has been of the road a while now and hoping to get a move on.

No don't think so. Thats not good news! Still trying to get my hands on mk 1astra sills, no one doing them, hadrians might have old stock, awating reply. What does you dad say is different? most important thing is the depth I have been told to get a neat join at top edge of door.

Where did you get the astra sills?

Would you say Mk2 fiesta ones fit better than mk3? Read a similar thread, someone posted they used mk3 sills but don't know if it was 3 or 5 door, I'd presume 3 door but don't want it to be too short.

Given up on the astra ones now.
