MK2 Overfenders - Possible new product?

Post by CarBen Fibre Creations »

I have seen some photos of MK2's fitted with over fenders but I cant find them anywhere, if you know of any photos could you post them up please?

Who would be interested in a set, design and price dependent of course :)

some inspiration there, all much cooler than the TRD kit

i think something that doesnt go lower than the side trims would be best, that way it will be compatible with any side skirts

also, something that can be bolted/riveted on, I'm not interested in something that has to be blended in with loads of filler cause it looks awful and always cracks

like so

also, FYI, these front wings (20mm wider than stock) are already available in japan (i'm thinkng about importing some at the min) so if you could copy these, and come up with something matching for the back that'd be smashing.

Thanks for the photo s guys, the black and white photos look like a good place to start. Bring the front wing down with an aero section in it near the door.....not sure about the front yet it might be best to cut it off where the wing stops but you'll have a gap from std bumper width to new wing.

The rears would stop above the trim and come down to match the OE bodywork at the rear of the car, that should be a bit easier to do. Again we'd need to have a cut off point where the front bumper section is so there would be a gap where it sticks out.

Both front and rear wouldnt blend in without making bumpers or extra bolt on sections. I'd need to make them like this because they wont pass MOT if the top half of the wheel isnt covered.

no. sorry.

you know the B&W one just has TRD rear end bits? not exactly new or different

those stage 21 wings are a perfect example of what to do, they match up with the front bumper etc but still give girth where it's needed (i.e, over the wheel)

same with the rear, no need to carry the width on to the rear of the car, a blister arch like the AE86RX7 would be ideal.

as for MOT, as long as the wheen doesn't stick out past the top of the arch (the "rule of thumb" is as long as you cant see wheel from a birds eye view) then it'd be fine, no need to have add on sections for the bumpers etc - that's just adding cost and complexity.

I didnt realize that was the TRD kit I wont be making anything that looks like that I dont want to release something already available.

Are the stage 21 overfenders on the white one in the colour photos?

Aerokit do a similar design too. If im doing this project I want to make something that stands out from the rest :)

The red car is very nice, there is a lot of work to get it to that level. I would prefer to do overfenders rather than replacement front wings and rear flares.

Excuse the photo but here is what I am thinking, any feedback would be great as long as its not feedback on my crap photoshop skills =;

Image

Fender 1:
Basic fenders that cover the top section of the wheel, will rivet into place.

Fender 2:
Bring the fender to the door for better blending options

Fender 3:
Bring the fender as far round the wheel as possible, the rear will be easy to do but the front will be harder to blend to the front bumper. 3 on the rear bumper could also be left off.

Let me know your thoughts :)

Oh BTW the wing on that red car, if anyone wants one give me a shout we do Voltex Style wings now!

Blue one looks good that is what I was trying to put across in my fantastic drawing :)

Would you all prefer an overfender for the front or replacement wings?

That looks to me like the best option. The only issue that pops up is the overhang on the front wings at the bottom (near skirts) and at the front bumper. The red one looks to have a custom bumper widened to fit the wings from that angle.

That red mr2 is photoshopped. I like the first photo white mr2 fenders.
