Long story short, bought the car a couple years ago. Ecu packed in after about six months of me owning it. Tried everything before finally figuring out the ecu was the problem. New ecu, car running fine for about a year. About a month ago it packed in again, exact same problem as last time so I presumed it was the ecu, replaced it and the car is running fine again.When the fault happens, the cel comes on but gives random error codes each time I check.
The car barely ticks over and usually dies unless i keep the revs up but it's popping and banging while I'm doing this.The fault is also intermittent, sometimes the car will run fine but for no longer than about five minutes, then the cel will come back on and the revs will drop and the engine stumbles about.
New ecu has sorted it again so I'm driving it in the hope that it doesn't happen again soon.
Was just wondering if anybody has any insight as to what could be causing the ecu to keep packing in. I'm a competent amateur mechanic, but useless at electrical stuff. Although, I'm thinking I'll have to bite the bullet on this one and get an auto electrician to have a look.Cheers for reading, hope you can help!
