Ignition and handbrake lights not working.

Post by IanClements »

I had to do some wiring repairs behind the stereo because some amateur had connected the wrong wires together (alright then it was me!); anyway, everything's back together now but my handbrake and ignition lights are not working.

I've checked the fuses and looked for anything I might have unplugged and not plugged back in again but can't find anything obvious. Can someone point me in the right direction please.

Double check the 7.5A Turn-Gauge fuse in the drivers footwell. Anything else not working ?

I've checked the fuse and it's fine. I can't spot anything else that's not working, head and taillight's are working, indicators etc.

Does the car start ? if so check the lamps for the two indications that are not working.

The car does start and drives ok. How easy is it to check the bulbs, is it just the top panel above the speedo that comes off?

You should also be able to light the "handbrake" light by pressing the button on the top of the brake fluid reservoir (this tests the "low fluid level" warning). Might be worth trying this as it uses some different wiring and might help narrow down the source of the fault.

I have no idea how this happened but I don't even have a Turn GAG fuse so I guess this must be the cause of the problem. I don't have a 7.5 amp fuse to replace it so will have to get some. Not sure how I did it because all the other fuses are in the correct places and I'd never even heard of this one before let alone pulled it out and left it.

I couldn't find any button on the brake fluid reservoir.

Radio aerial not working now - might as well have bought a Lotus!

Nothing wrong with a lotus, there's next to nothing on them to go wrong.
