boosting problem

I have a mk2 rev3 n/a convert to rev 2 turbo


On boosts it stutters and jumps

Its running a t28 turbo

It seems to be running rich as it smokes when driving


I thought it may need setting up on a rolling road but don't want to waste money

Could it be something else

any error codes? what ECU is in it? i assume you've checked all the ignition components? how much boost is it running?

only get a 42 code because the speed sensor is not connected

is the turbo making any boost before it splutters?? i'd be inclined to find out what your fuel pressure is. if it's not ignition then it's possibly fuel related. low fuel pressure could cause these symptoms, all in theory of course. but then so could a multitude of things

no it seems to be when it should be boosting

I don't think the afm and throttle body are from the engine could they need setting up

would a aftermarket fuel regulator help setup

Well if you're suffering from low fuel pressure it would most likely be the 20 year old fuel pump, the AFM shouldn't really be touched, i'd try and get the fuel pressure measured before anything, the cars are getting on now so it could be anything, seen a few problems with rev2 ecus lately on here i take it you're not hitting fuel cut? Although that's not best described as spluttering...

EDIT: I would actually check for boost leaks first. home made pressure tester is pretty easy to do.

Just been messing with it today and found the ecu is wrong

I don't have a rev2 the part number doesn't match

Would this cause these problems

Wrong map, sensors issues

I'm really not sure about rev1/2 compatibilty mate, i'm sure somebody can tell you though 👍
