Does anyone use 245 width tyres on 8" wide wheels

Post by philmr2 »

Just waiting to get my centres for my advans back from the powder coaters, then I will be in the market for new tyres.
I was going to buy some 225/45/16 for the rears but don't know how well it would cope with 245/45/16 on a 8" rim

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

I'm running 245/40/17 on a 7.5 rim and everything performs very well, no problems with back end grip or unstable handling. I did check with the local tyre company before I did it and only went for budget tyres incase it didn't work out.

I currently run 245's on my 17" wheels on the rear but they are 9" wide and they look spot on not stretched neither baggy at the side walls, how do your tyres look on the rim.

There is a slight bulge to them but I wanted to get a bit more girth on the back but I'm not in a position to buy new rims at the moment, I guess I'm happy with the look and it helps fill the arches even though its going to be putting my speedo out slightly.

I run 245/35/17 on 17x8J - absolutely perfect fit with neither bulge nor stretch and a nigh on perfect match for the rolling radius of the stock 225/50/15 :thumleft:

^^ This....245/35/17, except on 8.5 inch rear.
Rim protectors still effective, just.

Tyres

I have 255/40 17s on 8inch et42 offset rims and turbo billies.
The arches needed rolling but the tyres look great on the rims.

I bet they need rolling, given the tyres are over an inch larger in diameter than they should be and probably bulging due to excess width on the rim too
