T-bar seals leaking - now fixed!
I replace the tbar seals in my car a few years ago but it didn't sort the problem completely. I tried the black silicone and cling film method the other week. I will need to take it on an extended run to be sure it's completely leak free but so far so good, no leaks!

I tried that method last year and found that it did improve the leaks, so I tried it again but it made things worse the second time.
Re: T-bar seals leaking - now fixed!
I don't think it's an exact science. Last time I tried it I still had a few drips. Quite easy to remove and try again though if it doesn't work first time.

The bolts that hold the central bar down break away
Getting that right is the main secret
If you want to know exactly what I mean just ask

Lol
The central bar is a double channel which holds the inner ends of the glass panels
The bar is held to the centre roof rail with 4 bolts
The bolts break away from the central bar, which then doesn't hold down properly
You need to remove the seals to find out if the bolts are broken

Thanks for that Peter. I'll have a look.
Re: T-bar seals leaking - now fixed!
There was an extensive photo thread on how to fix this properly by Jinxy, working on someone else's motor. I cannot see it on this site so it may be on one of the others. As I recall it involved stripping everything back and replacing the rusted (leaking) studs. Probably worth asking Jinxy.

No you mention it I do recall seeing that a few years ago. Not sure where it is now. I'll do an internet trawl when I get a few minutes. I've got another mk1 now which has a bad leak so might be useful to know for that one too.

Re: T-bar seals leaking - now fixed!
mine leaks both sides I reckon its because my door hinges have dropped a little and also the doors move up and down while driving over bumps
before I tackle the roof I want to fix the door hinges ,its allways garaged so not a big problem unless I get caught in the rain

I had a problem with the drivers door which had dropped. It was a while ago but I think I sorted it with some washers behind the bottom hinge. It's been fine ever since.

If you read page 3 of the thread which Jinxy started, you'll see what I did to solve the main water leak
