Mounting a defi gauge

Post by Jonny4494 »

I have a crappy dragon gauge boost gauge (52mm) that came with fitted next to the steering wheel in the plastic surround. Would it be possible to open that hole further out and whip a 60mm defi gauge in there? As I'm doubting my eBay gauge is very reliable.

Well, maybe. I'm in no position to judge whether you can enlarge the hole in a mount I've never seen without making it too thin.

It's going to be down to how big the bezel is on the new gauge, I'd think. Will be tight.

do-able though? the one in currently is a 52mm gauge, the new one is a 60mm. i was thinking of drilling it out to a suitable diameter, and popping the defi gauge in.

I think you'll run out of plastic and it will be very flimsy and snap when you put it back in. :?

I'd have thought that was an awful location for a gauge... I can't see it behind the wiper stalk, myself

Do you think you could survive by enlarging the hole by 4mm?

Get a replacement stereo surround and don't put anything there. I agree with shinny. it is a horrible place for a gauge. :thumleft:

Well I'm glad I didn't put it there! Haha. Don't want to lose the blue though, so a replacement surround is out of the picture. Might just disconnect that one completely and leave it in for the time being

There are plenty of fascias out there, awaiting a new home. I do see the point of wanting to break up the black interior, though.

But do you know the 52mm one is bad? While it's probably impossible to calibrate it, it may be possible to test it against a known good one.

Alternatively, looks like you have a space in the centre console that would take a rectangular EBC with at least a boost readout (and probably more useful stuff like peak recall, etc.).

I was thinking of an EBC, but I don't think I'd have the slightest clue on how to set it up 8-[ might watch a few YouTube vids to learn!

I don't actually know it's wrong, nor do I think it's wrong. But I think it'll eventually pack up. It reads -9psi at idle, does that sound correct?
