advice please on coilovers what should i be doing?

Post by dylan5084 »

I'm goin to be buying a set of meister-r zeta r coilovers in the near future, is there anything else I should be doing to the car along with the coils, to complement them so to speak?

My cars partially poly bushed, but apart from that suspension wise it's standard

When I changed to coilovers, the handling was great but for me, it was enhanced with aftermarket ARB's

Cornering and balance was transformed HTH :thumleft:

New drop links and braided brake lines would be worth fitting at the same time.

Drop links are a must! They come with shortened front droplinks, so you'll only need new rear ones. They are pretty much impossible to take off if they haven't been done in a while.

If you want to preserve your coilovers, you might want to purchase socks for them;

The lower you make the ride height, the worse the car handles. So a good set of Roll Centre Adjusters will balance that out.

The shortened length you take out by lowering your car, is re-applied by adding a 'spacer' in place.

If you was to lower your car, you'd be changing the angle at which the lower arms operate at. Causing less travel. By adding the 'spacer' in-between the ball joint and knuckle, it adds the space back in which was taken out by shortening the length of the strut.

If that makes any sense? I've probably not worded that the best :lol:

If you want them to work as intended, you should get them cornerweighted.

Pair of whitelines are a good handling mod for not much money

So I think what Donato is saying, is that the RCA resets the angle of the lower arms to the value at the original ride height, after you have lowered the car?

Found a diagram that best explains it;

Thats pretty much it, got a set of PP ones and they do make a noticeable difference. I also noticed that its given me an increased amount of negative camber.

You can also get adjustable outer tie rod arms to correct the geometry for those.

Pictures speak a hundred words lol

Thanks I get the principle now :oops: :wink:

If I were putting RCA's on, what else would be worth replacing at the same time??

The drop links on the car aren't old but there ebay crap... Wheres the best place to get Oem standard or better Mr t??

Does the whiteline arbs come with poly bushes? Who's the cheapest stockist of these ?

Not sure how low I'm going... Shes dropped 30mm on tein springs just now and looks the height I want her, does that mean I should get 30mm spacers?.

I take it that it would be a good idea to poly bush the rest of the car too yes?

They only do the RCA's in set sizes depending on the manufacturer. The best thing to do would be to fit the coilovers and set your ride height. Then decide if you think you need them. A lot of people can't tell the difference, but for me it was night & day.

As for droplinks, Delphi are OEM quality. Genuine ones are quite expensive, but Delphi are a fraction of the cost.

You can get the Tanabe 30mm+ ones for about the same as white lines. I'm eyeing up a set on fleabay but would have to import from americaland.

30mm seems like way too much, especially on coilovers! My car is stiff enough with the trd 22mm hollow ones, 30mm ones seem like overkill unless you never want to drive on the street!
