Wheel alignment products

Has anyone had any experience with this or any similar products. I'm fed up of paying out at garages every time something gets replaced on my suspension and thought it might be useful :-

I works surprisingly well, however Trackace seems more sophisticated

I'm not keen on shelling out good money for suspect alignment at garages until I get all my suspension work finished & take the car to a top notch tuner

I've done it before using wood and string etc and I've seen trackace before, but it's only useful for the front which isn't much help to me. They're supposedly working on a version that can do the rear as well but no idea if/when it'll see the light of day

I asked him about the rear a few weeks back and he said by the end of the year but was pretty vague about it so don't hold your breathe.

Yes, Gunson do a caster/camber gauge as well

And the Gunson Trackrite will do the rears as well as front

Gunson is part of the Crypton group which is long established in testing & measurement

How much do you get charged for alignment Ian?

I had my caster and toe done recently for £59

It was £120 for a full setup but it seems to have reduced to £60 this year. Had it done 3 times in the last 6 months and it's going to need another one soon.

Gunson seem to do the same product, it's on a press release from 2011 but I can't find it to buy. I wonder if TrackAce have taken it over?

Yes looks like that

Gunson were calling it Trackrite Laser in the press release

Looks like they decided to go with the runover Trackrite instead & hived the laser device off

Yes

I'm not sure how precisely accurate it is but good enough for me till I finally get all my suspension upgrades / mods finished

Didn't pay £64 for mine (only about £30)

Am thinking of getting one of the Gunson caster / camber gauges too

I think the castor gauges are a lot more expensive and you also need the turntables underneath the wheel which are not cheap. There's a video on the Gunson site for it.

I'm also thinking that the problem with the drive over gauges is that if your tyres are worn unevenly (through poor alignment) then that will affect the reading.

Last year one of my rear tie rod's got bent, I drove for 300 miles before fixing it and getting re-aligned; tyres were worn so they pulled to the side after just that mileage.

They're nice but bend all too easily

If you use it on the rear you will have to read the scale backwards ie negative becomes positive and just use it the same as doing the front but pretending the back of the car is the front.

I was thinking about that, glad someone else thinks the same. Strange they don't advertise it that way though.

Thats the way we used to do it with Dunlop gauges years ago
