second set of butterflys not active

Post by derek »

Hi guys,

Long time from Ive being on this forum, so have lost all my previous details. I have a mk1b 88 mr2 restored and is my pride and joy. It has never enjoyed the advantage of the added benefit of the second set of butterflies opening to give her extra boost. Went to change the relay under the manifold under the black canister but after buying a complete manifold etc from paul simms on ebay 6 months ago, its the wrong relay. mines oval connections and his supplied one is square connector.

So what is wrong why I cant activate the second butterflies. Is there a sensor elsewhere that's causes this problem,

think I should have posted this in the mk1 section. sorry!!

Your TVIS VSV is a Mk1b, the "new" one is from a MK1A, the TVIS won't work without that plugged in.

Could be your TVIS rail has seized or a split vac pipe, Actuator diaphragm split or seized linkage, to be honest there are several reasons for it not working.

Hi, Im assuming its not activating as there is no additional exceleration through the revs at all. I have looked at the butterfly rail and all is moving freely. I assumed it was the relay beside the canister but as stated, Ive been sent the wrong one. So really need help to start at the beginning and try and get this working. Option two, buy a complete 2nd hand tvis system from the manifold out.

I had this before I rebuilt my engine and it was due to the plug not being pushed in enough.

Also make sure the vacuum lines are in the correct way round.

any photos of the lines to make sure as the once coming out of the vacuum valve is nearest the 1st pin on the relay thingy.

Secondly anyone got a oval relay for the butterfly inlet manifold
