[Mk2] [Turbo] Dimming lights and all other eletrical power seems weak.§

Post by samgpr50 »

Hi everyone,

So it looks like it's time for my cars weekly break down!!

I had an issue driving home the other night where my lights would dim when pressing the brake and the whole electrical system seemed short on power. Now it did seem to stop by the time I got home.

I am thinking that maybe a bad battery earth cable could be causing this? Basically the reason I have come to this conclusion is because I had the cable off the other day and it didn't look in the best condition. So I presume as these issues were happening that the car was running on alternator power only.

The car had no warning lights appear and I turned the car off and on and it didn't struggle to start. Thanks in advance for your views.

Well it could simply be that the battery isn't any good..

But yes a bad earth could cause this. Get them replaced and see. its always a good idea anyway.

I think the battery is fine as the car will start fine. Thank you for the offer though. Going to put a new earth strap on tomorrow and see if it fixes it. Was fine today when I nipped into town.
