CP Forged Pistons

Post by MR2 Rich »

Is anyone using CP forged pistons in their engine? Having spoken to the main importer for forged pistons today, they say CP are the ones to go for as they are strong and quiet. They are 500 for a set including VAT which I can't find any better elsewhere, anyone got any suggestions on cheapest place for them? Have tried the usual (eBay! fensport and rogue) and they are all more expensive.

Cheers Rich

All forged pistons are strong. And they're all quiet, excepting maybe HKS.

Would depend on bore clearance.

I didn't, whoever had it before me and did the rebuild got it wrong! I'm having it rebuilt on a standard block and all new Toyota parts to complete it.

I have JE and from a cold start there's a little bit of audible slap but that goes once warmed up. As I understand it, forged pistons expand a little bit so bore clearance will have taken this into consideration and leave a little bit of room for the pistons to get up to temp.

Yes mate, from a seller called something like PoorBoyParts if I recall correctly, I contacted him outside of ebay and he did me a deal (through PayPal) on ARP's and rods at the same time :thumleft:

I have CP pistons in mine and I cant fault them.

Keep in mind, when ordering, if you were to get standard 86mm (if you can) you may run the risk of them being too tight/loose in your bores due to wear. I was advised not to buy pistons and expect them to fit perfect in the standard bore due to wear.

I got 86.25's then got the block bored to the correct clearance recommended by CP and they are perfect. no different noises from standard

I was 480 for the set. As i say, cant recommend them enough.

Engine builder should be measuring the bores for wear and ovality before ordering pistons.

Yeah sorry missed that bit out. but self explanitory.

Whats the chances of an 86mm fitting as it should in the standard bores?

I was told my bores were fine but got it bored to correct spec for 86.25's using a torque plate just to be sure. Little bit extra power aswell? without pushing the wall thickness of block past safe limits
