Main 60amp Engine Bay Fuse

Post by SuperRedMR2 »

A while ago while me and my mate were trying to diagnose a non starting issue (loose wire on starter it turned out to be) we were pulling fuses from the main engine bay fuse holder.

Unfortunately my mate pulled out the main 60amp fuse and ripped it clean from its screw.

I have another one coming in the post to rectify this situation. In the mean time I have replaced this fuse with a screw, yes I know its not ideal, but its bridged the gap and the car runs fine.

Obviously I will be fitting the replacement fuse when it arrives in the post, but it looks an absolute ******* to fit as there is a lot of plastic in the way of the screw.

Anyone had to do this before? Ideas would be helpful.

That fusible link is for the headlights
I've never had to change one on a MK1, but I have changed a similar one on a MK2, looking at some pictures it's similar to the MK2.
You'll need to:-
Disconnect the battery.
Unscrew the fusebox from it's bracket and get enough slack to turn it over
Unclip the bottom cover (if the MK1 has a bottom cover, not sure on that)
Unbolt the fuse from below and replace

I was unaware that the fuse holder actually popped out of the fuse box so that made it easy! all done! thank god
