[Mk2] [Turbo] Better place to take power for ebc?

Post by samgpr50 »

Hi everyone,

So I have my ebc wired into my fag lighter however I often use my phone charger in there. This causes the controller to act strange and give false readings. Can anyone think of a better place other than the cd player? Thanks in advance.

Thanks but ideally I don't want to use that one as it doesn't work correctly. There has to be somewhere else easy. =(

Just run one through from the battery using a relay, and switch the relay with any ignition switched live. It's really not hard to run through the passenger footwell to the centre console (take about 10 minutes).

just have this niggling thought that if I rip out the wiring, then the car will never get out of the garage again.

Still in the garage...

Don't forget to fuse the live before the relay though.

No probs, been doing quite a bit of wiring on mine at the minute, and I prefer to know I have clean powers :thumleft:

Having done this on a few cars I recommend you run a new feed from the battery. Maplins etc sell a waterproof in-line fuse at the source, take a fused spur off your battery (say 10A) into the dashboard somewhere. You can get splitter units dead easy, e.g. 4 splits with fuses of your choice, fit a 0.5A or whatever off your one for the EBC, job done -leaves you with 3 other feeds you can fit fused connections onto later.

Use an "add a circuit" fuse tap straight into the interior fuse box (switched and permanent lives in there, and good earth point right next to it) saves hacking into the car's loom and means accessories can simply be unplugged when you want to remove them. Definitely no need to take a feed straight from the battery.
