Guess the noise and Win beer at Japfest

Post by SuperRedMR2 »

I have a really annoying electrical/crackling/buzzing sound to the right rear of the car.

I have done the following:- (and started up with the same annoying noise)

Unplugged the fan, both plugs.
Unplugged the alternator plug with earth still on
Removed earth with plug back in.
Removed earth and plug.
Removed aerial plug

I haven't removed all of the above at the same time and tried starting it.

The battery terminals are on tight and all the earths are on tight.

I have attached a video obviously for you to listen to. Its a static type noise if you can hear it in front of the janspeed exhaust.

It didn't do it before I rebuilt the engine so it's obviously something I have done.

The alternator and battery have done 25miles. The old battery and alternator (altho they were fubar, well battery was) still made the noise.

I had loom issues a while ago when the starter earth was attached properly and I melted my dads jump leads. That was sorted and had no other issues with loom since.

A pack of beer will be awarded to whoever solves this issue.

Take the alternator belt off and run it again ( not to long as your water pump wont work ) . it sounds like a bearing to me .

Same advice given on TB, also that main cable is not an earth, it's a major battery live.

Its the alternator bearings much to my disappointment so thank you.

Have emailed the seller I bought it from, but don't expect to get anything back, although it was sold as 'new' I feel he is under some sort of obligation to respond to my email.

I'll be taking it to a alternator recon place near to where I work for a closer look.

Cheers
