Thought I Was Gonna Die....

... From the cold last tonite.

Two o clock in the morning and I had to take the Girlfriend home as she had college in the morning. So got in the car and started driving, waiting for the temperature needle to go up so i knew when to start using the heater.

So i joined the A12 and the temperature needle finally went up just below half, but no warm heat!!!! Went off at a junction thinkin heck! im gonna freeze on the way home, then frantically cheaking everything I saw the temperature gauge go down to 1/4 way up  At this point i worried what was goin on and thoughts went thro my mind thinkin that it was the extreme cold air blowing on the temperature gauge but I had no clue how warmed up my engine was or where the temperature gauge is in my car, Luckly I wasent driving fast due to the cold weather and thinkin black ice could be around the corner or i could have done some damage to my engine. After another 5 minutes of driving the heater did become hot but...

Can n e one spread n e ideas on this and do i have a problem with the temperature gauge, the car ran fine and after a while the heat finally did come on like it alwase does, what worried me was usually when i put the heater on, it gets so hot i have to put down the windows! AND

ANOTHER Annoying thing was the woman complaing she was cold and me saying "Forget you there might be something wrong with my car"

So im now in the doghouse!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!

If it takes a long time to warm up i guess the most likely problem is going to be a faulty thermostat.

yup if there is plenty of coolant in the system and no air locks then the thermostat is dead. Getting it replaced is fun!

Parts are cheap though, £22 from Mr T but getting the housing off is a pig
