[Mk2] [Turbo] Standard Air Filter Box Query

Post by humdigadi »

I'm replacing the induction kit on my Rev 2 Turbo with a stock air filter box. I've bought this one after being told it is all I need:

However, I've now seen this one and it has an extra bit (the bit to the right):

Am i right in thinking that the bit on the right in the 2nd photo is essentially like a scoop that fits adjacent to the side air intake? And is therefore pretty important?

Thanks,

Matt

Hi Matt

I have the one in the bottom picture waiting to go on my Rev3 turbo. I was told the Rev1/2 are different to the Rev3's.

Rev2 and Rev3 turbo airboxes are different, as the Rev2 uses an AFM.

From memory, there is the top and bottom pieces of the air box that snap together with clips, and then an additional bit of cowling with pipe that directs air through the filter.

Hi Rich,

The top one is definitely from a Rev 2 and I have assumed the bottom one is a Rev 1/2 too simply becasue it looks the same. I had also assumed that the Rev 3 onwards are different because they don't have the AFM like the top picture.

So I'm just confused!

Thanks Red, I think that probably means I do need the other bit too.

Here's a couple more photo's of the one I have already bought, i.e. the very first picture.

You don't need the 2nd box, I'd just put a cold air feed to the 2nd box intake.
The large box just has air inside it for initial throttle opening to reduce induction noise

Thanks for the response mrturbotom.

I've bought the lower one too, simply because it wasn't expensive and so probably use it anyway but I understand what you mean. At least I have a spare box and AFM now!

And an induction kit!
