saving another mr2 might not have been a good idea

Post by nath severs »

So I decided to buy a cheap Mr2 to do up over the winter and run about in ,anyway I picked it up for 300 and the shell is straight and more to the point solid just scratched and faded paint ,but sills ok ,anyway it had receipts for head work timing belt waterpump and its only done 85 miles since the work as it ran out of test and parked up,driving it home I was impressed as the clutch was nice and the gearbox was tight and power was better than I expected ,bug cheesy grim on my face then at the traffic lights the old saying if its to good to be true it usually is happened ,and it went from a quiet 3gse to a Perkins diesal on 3 pots ,a noise only described as shaking keys in a metal biscuit tin ,when I rev it it gets no worse ,buy after having a look and ruling out bottom end and checking shim clearance I'm stumped ,I've never heard the noise one before it sounds like its coming from near the oil filter area ,any ideas anyone thanks

I had a terrible issue with very very bad running loads of pops and bangs lots of very black smoke even large flames.

Turned out to be the ECU.. worth a check pop the lid off and check that none of the cap have leaked which can cause very odd running.
