[Mk2] [Turbo] drivers side steering foglight not steering

Post by madmr2man »

Morning all

My steering fog on my drivers side is not operating with the steering.
Passenger side is fine.

These are obviously pointless, but you know how it is, you want everything to work as it should.

Can these be tested once removed?
Or can it only be the motor at fault as they are powered by the same supply?

Cheers[/code]

Has it always been like that or something that has recently stopped working?

Errr, tough one that!
I only noticed I had them 3 years into my 5 year ownership.
For some reason I had the switch the opposite way to normal while I backed it into the garage one night, what's that? I have 1 steering fog!

Only just got around to thinking about sorting it after headgasket and turbo type issues

Maybe a previous owner didnt know either and had to replace it and put the wrong one in?

Nah, I had a fight with both of them before to get them out and put some decent bulbs in.

I'm hoping the connectors are the same so I can swap left to right just to see if the problem moves with the fog.

Thread resurrection!

Of late, I have mostly been modifying stuff that works instead of repairing stuff that doesn't.

The drivers steering fog is still bugging me.

Today I found some time to take them both out and have a look.
I randomly checked the resistance across the steering motor terminals, not knowing what they are supposed to be.
As a comparative check, there was definitely a difference between the two, suggesting that the RH motor is indeed a tad miffed.

The connectors were the same both sides so I plugged the working LH fog into the drivers side loom. Lo and behold it steers, so I need a new steering fog for the drivers side.

Trouble is the only ones i can find to buy have all the mounting points snapped off.
My old ones are perfect so does anyone know if you can swap th internals over?

Cheers
