It didn't restart so called AA who hooked it up to a power pack and it started straight away,he thought it was alternator as it wasn't holding charge but it's fine since so therefore it must be charging.battery is also fine.
Any other ideas?

Ok,when car has been sitting overnight,it idled rough and not getting enough power,if you drive it all dash lights come on you lose power and it dies!

Check with voltmeter that alternator is charging.
Then with ammeter, check for parasitic loss through main battery lead when everything is switched off and engine not running.
