Exhaust gasket question

Post by edt »

I've got the standard factory exhaust fitted & Luke noticed the gasket was looking tired. Drove it last week & can hear it blowing now.
Other than replacing, is there any compound that'll help re-seal?

Exhaust paste is always a bodge, but I have found this stuff called Spa Turbo Gasket Eliminator which is pretty good for sealing xxxx exhaust joints. I've used it on 2 cars where I couldn't get gaskets quickly enough and it seems to work. Obviously being exhaust paste eventually it will go brittle and fall off, but you should have managed to get a proper gasket by then :thumleft:

Cheers.. let me check this with you.. the location of the gasket I'm describing is to the side of the silencer box, where one of the pipes exits the box before heading back under the bumper. This stuff the correct temp fix for there?

The joint you are referring to use a fire ring, not a gasket.

The fire rings rarely fail, but the flanges at the joints corrode badly. If the flanges have rotted away you'll need to replace the flanges or even the exhaust itself.

Sorry guys.. I'm wrong took a look this morning. It's where the pipe leaves (?) what I assume is the cat, just behind being the silencer box, nearside. Will try & take a picture & put up here
