[Mk2] [Turbo] How long will a ebay downpipe last?

Post by joemacmr2 »

I know the cheap ebay decats will crack at some point and everyone says to spend the extra money for a berk. But how long will it last roughly. Are we chatting a couple of months or yrs here?

What support bracket are you talking about mate? Do you think that sped up the cracking?

GTSchris sells them, they are allegedly meant to prevent cracking, but i never had any trouble without one.

Decat

Post by joemacmr2 »

Is there a very noticeable difference with de cat. In other words, is it worth the money/hassle?

Also my Motoria exhaust is loud enough. Will decat make it much louder?

Decats are lighter and more free flowing than the cast iron cat. Worth it definitely!

Unless you buy a cheap down pipe that cracks and you do the job over and over.

Buy a decent Berk de-cat and be happy. :thumleft:

Not a great deal, but will defo be louder as the cat acts as a muffler. De-cat is straight through

couldn't agree more with this, the only reason i had a cheap one is that i was given it for free, spend the extra money on a berk one, and yes, you will notice a difference, deffo a great bang for buck mod, couple that up with a decent exhaust and the car will drive great :thumleft:

When you get your cheap ebay downpipe, fit it up and then realise your wastegate catches on the poorly welded up bellmouth, you then have to remove the downpipe fix it yourself, or try and send it back and hope the new one is better made  and then fit that up.

With the Berk downpipe, it fits perfectly and it works.

I must be a lucky SOB or something, had my XS power one on for like 5 years and never had a crack even when I went with a bigger turbo, I recently added a flexi section to it to make it longer as I went top mount.

Maybe people need to check engine mounts rather than adding flexi sections...

Think my minds made up on a berk from gtschris. Once it's fitted, don't ever want to have to revisit it at a later stage. I know u get fitting instructions but just wondering a few things since I was out blasting the wd40 on the bolts this morning in preparation.

On a rev 2, do I only need to move the oil filter and dipstick out of the way to get at the 6 bolts? Is there any thing else?

The oil cooler too in most cases.
