2nd chargecooler rad

Post by simpson_eh »

just a random thought,

i am using the 205 chargecooler setup with the usual cinq rad, would there be any benefit adding a second rad where the old intercooler used to sit, just for that extra bit of cooling

just thinking the longer its out of the core the cooler the coolant can get so it would be colder reentering the core, which has to be better for charge temps

In principle, why not?

In practice, you'll need to ensure having the rad there doesn't increase temperatures due to the heat of the engine bay. I mean, you're not using an intercooler there because it can heatsoak there, right?

well the cold feed from the vent should stop any heat soak anyway unless the intercooler suffered from it,

i wouldnt mind trying it anywayfor the sake of a few connectors and a small cheapo rad and use one of those intercooler shrouds to force it through

I would be interested to see if anyone just had one rad where the intercooler currently is.

With the same pump the water flow will be less because of the greater resistance of the second rad, so a bigger pump will also be needed

You'd probably be better off just using a better rad up front :thumleft:

Don't spend money for the sake of it.

Are you measuring coolant/intake temps on your current setup and finding they are not low enough?

Is the rad at the front properly ducted? A good quality rad, properly ducted to force the air through the core would help optimise your setup.

Peter @ Sbits might do as he's just fitted one to my car. If not, and if the bumper is still off of my car then I'm sure he won't mind taking one if you ask him nicely. :thumleft:
