Power Steering brushes

Post by mr2mk2.com »

My power steering light is constantly on but the power steering works fine apart from the pump being slightly noisy. I'm hoping it's just the brushes as I think they have a simple sensor on them when they get too short. Has anyone changed them and would they be able to help?

I've not checked the fault code. If there is a fault code stored does the engine management light glow on the dash?
I will check the forums to find out how to do this unless you don't mind explaining the procedure.
Thanks

Bridge E1 and TC in the engine bay diagnostics port and then turn on the ignition.

Constant flashing every half second = no error codes.

Else count the flashes and you'll get a two digit number. Report error code here or PM me.

Thanks for the info.
Decided to try swapping the brushes with the ones off my old car. These were twice as long and took 10 mins to swap. Now no PS light and all is well.
Noticed the copper wiring on the shorter brushes was a reddish colour, maybe due to them arcing and getting hot?
