[Mk2] [Turbo] quad rear lights - no reverse lights

Post by mtman »

My recently bought SW20 has had the rear lights wired so all 4 come on, ferrari look I suppose. However my reverse lights don't work, is this because of the 4 lights wiring. If so how do I convert it back, as recently pulled by the police as no reversing lights etc. thanks

why would the police pull you for no reversing lights? Do you often drive backwards?
These are not even tested on a MOT

You could look at the reverse switch as doing the 4 brake lights should not have anything to do with reverse lights not working

Many, many guys here have their stop and tail lights rewired as quad lights. There is nothing illegal in it providing its been done properly.

I'm sure even the most empty-headed woodentop knows that reverse lights are not a legal requirement, so the reason you were stopped was BS.

What else did plod tell you was wrong with the lights?

To convert back is a straightforward process if you're handy with a voltmeter.

ETA

The reason your reverse lights don't work is most likely the switch. Nothing to do with quad light conversion. A simple check with a voltmeter will tell you if that is the case.

Thanks for the replys. Incidentially I was reversing into a tight parking space when they were in a queue behind me. I obviously held them up and any excuse i suppose at this time of year.

Glad to hear the rear lights and reversing lights are not linked - cheers I've learnt something and will investigate.

And I must be a " empty-headed woodentop" as didn't realize that reversing lights aren't an MOT requirement.

Happy motoring for 2013.

A "woodentop" is a common slang name for plod, not you!

If you have them and they don't work it's an MoT fail.

If you don't have them, it's not.

True, and a quick check of the MOT manual has no mention of reverse lights being tested whatsoever.
