New bushes are squeaky - Is this normal?

Post by Torero »

When I dropped the engine earlier this month, I replaced the rear ball joints, droplinks and all the rear rubber bushes with Prothane ones courtesy of a great deal from Peter at SBits. These were recommended by several people not just on IMOC and they seem to be the dogs danglies.

After they were fitted I drove back to London and haven't done much since so me and the missus did a 200 mile round trip to the Cotswold this weekend. A mixture of motorway, A roads and some awesome country lanes where I really did open up the V6 :D.

Nothing major to report but we both noticed some squeaking from the rear which was consistent with suspension movement. I did grease the bushes and sleeves as instructed but was wondering if this is perfectly normal. Another 500 miles or so and they will be torqued once again so it may be that the bushes are bedding in but is this normal and has anyone else got any experience. Can I spray them with a Teflon/PTFE lubricant or should I just wait.

Yeah I had that problem. I can't remember the damn name but I sprayed them with a lube which practically evaporates on contact, amazing stuff, and stop the squeeking forever more. Someone else will come along to give the name no doubt!

I found it was the ARB bushes causing the squeeking.

Interesting that as I fitted Whiteline ARBs which came with PowerFlex poly bushes, so that makes sense.

Thanks for the advice on the lube I'm sure someone will update with the name :thumleft:

Any squeeking is normally the ARB bushes, and for that reason we overdo the silicone grease when we fit them.

If you need another sachet of ProThane grease, PM me.

TBH Peter, I didn't grease the ARB bushes so they are the likely suspects.

I'll drop you a PM shortly, the offer is very much appreciated. :thumleft:
