Newbie and some suspension questions

Post by Hoylake_AW11 »

Hi all

Just saying a quick hi to you all from another newbie. I have a 1989 mk1b that will be gradually tidied up over time. I work within walking distance from work so this is very much a toy for me.

Car is pretty standard at the moment other than the brakes (Celica ST twin pots with Celica disks up front, MR2 mk2 rears) and a pair of SBits rear tie rods.

I'm currently sorting out the bushes as quite frankly, they were knackered. The front was completed yesterday as the ARB bushes had a knock, and the front strut bar bush had worn really badly. Rears need doing today so will crack on with that.

I'm also looking to sort out the bodywork including replacing the fibreglass front wing with its flaky paint and lacquer (over 3E5 red - surely doesnt come lacquered normally??).

Gary (mk1 dal) is very kindly sorting me the front drivers wing today anyway so i'll pop to see him either later today or sometime over the coming week.

Anyway, a couple of questions if i may:-

The fitting instructions for the front strut bar states to torque the nuts to standard torque. Does anyone have the torque settings? I'll obviously need a torque spanner for doing up the inner nut (or is it that critical)??

Second, i've seen the Whiteline ARB mentioned as a really good upgrade for the spindly rear ARB that comes as standard. Is this worthwhile for a road car, or would the mk2 bar to a better intermediate (and cheaper) option??

Thanks
Paul

The 18mm diameter mk2 ARB is a good upgrade and you can use the front mk1 ARB brackets (if you find a spare set) to use with the bushes.

Thats great thanks. I'll keep my out out for a bar, brackets and some poly bushes to match.

Cheers
