[Mk2] [NA] Rear Bumper grille

Post by sangyboymr2 »

Just picked up a rather nice rev 5 with a stainless steel exhaust after my rev 2 was written off. Theres a small black grille on the rear bumper that obscures the rather nice stainless back box. What's the best way to take this off? I hate to say I haven't checked yet with the weather being so wet I don't really want to get down on my hands and knees to look.

It is possible to just bend up the black grille so that it is hidden out of view

Cut it off :thumleft: Or bend it up if you're likely to want to change it back.

It's part of the car.

Grab the tin snips and whip it off... save the weight. :thumleft:

I used an angle grinder. probably easier than tin snips.

Weight in the worst place though....
Like the spoiler and the motorised aerial.
Get rid of those three and swap to a lighter SS exhaust and you've saved some worthwhile kilos.
I also thought the swap to a tubby lid saved weight but apparently with the rain trays in place not.

I'm in 2 minds to take mine off or not, think tit'll show the exhaust off some more if it goes but see it as a bit of the original iconic mr2 design...

Thoughts?...

Or pics of other cars with them off and the same (or nearly the same) exhaust, it's a Magnex on an NA...

The way I see it, if you have a stock exhaust, leave the grill. Aftermarket shiny exhaust, remove. Simples

Yup, Holiday first then busy with work after that, so then end of June hoping to get the car in the Peter to get all the new suspension stuff I have fitted, might ask if he'll cut it off while it's there, that or a cheap eBay grinder :D
